Hi all,
Thanks for straighten me out Jeff. I guess it’s up the individual to decide what is the easiest to make a free call, ask the friend to hang up and dial back the number in the display or ask the friend to download SW to his/her mobile phone, persuade him/her to let the SW access the phonebook and tell him/her to get a data plan with the operator. So I join your greeting “Happy calling whatever your favorite service”

Hi Q and other basketball fans,

I just wanted to correct an inaccuracy in the previous post by the Rebtel employee:

* EQO call-as-normal scenario:

EQO supports the call-as-normal scenario to all countries in the world, not 29 as stated above.

* EQO country support

EQO currently supports free calling in 29 countries, with support for 40 countries by the end of 2007. Many more countries will be added in 2008.

Aside from these issues, we find that our users much prefer the ease and simplicity of dialing free calls though the same dialing experience they are used to on regular mobile calls, rather than going through the "hang up and call me back at a number you're unfamiliar with" ritual. Also with EQO you get free instant messaging, free texting to EQO users, and cheap EQO Text/SMS Out to anyone.

Just wanted to set the record straight! Happy calling whatever your favourite service.

Q, I’m glad you mastered the way of Rebtel and since I work at Rebtel I have added some shortcuts for those who follow your lead.
1. The easiest way to get started is to send and SMS to +44 77 9780 0900 with the name and number of your friend e.g. “John +442076297522” and you’re on your way. You’ll get an SMS back with the local number to John.
2. The person you’re calling does not have to be signed up with Rebtel.
3. There are two ways of calling, the call-back scenario you’re referring to, Kylie, and the calling-as-normal scenario, i.e. your friend does not have to hang up and call back.
a. The call-back scenario works in 40 countries. The call-back scenario means that you do not need to pay us anything, just your operator for the normal local call and your friend pays his/her operator for the normal local call
b. The calling-as-normal scenario means that you need to pay us a minute fee in addition to the cost of the local call that you pay to your operator. We focus on keeping the minute fee as low as possible. Check them out at Rebtel Rates.
Kylie,
You recommended EQO so I had to check it out. I took the liberty of doing a comparison between Rebtel and EQO and some of my conclusions are (correct me if I’m wrong)
1. Rebtel works with any phone without download. (EQO needs download)
2. With Rebtel only one party has to be signed up to avoid paying Rebtel. (With EQO both parties need to signed up)
4. The call-back-scenario, i.e. where you avoid paying Rebtel anything works in 40 countries (EQO only 29)
5. The call-as-normal scenario with Rebtel works in all countries. (EQO only 29)

another interesting service for your mobile phone with some more functionality you can try is EQO. www.eqo.com

In addition to free calling, you can also text and instant message (using MSN, GoogleTalk, yahoo! etc.) which is awesome. i tried rebtel and find the call-back scenario a bit cumbersome. with EQO you just dial out as normal.

also right now - they give you 100 free international minutes / 25 texts when you sign up, which is also free.
