I’m guilty as charged. Don’t sell yourself short. I see it more often than before because of the internet but players often say “I’ll play for free”. This will not get you a job. Show your stuff, be confident and the rest will take care of itself.

If you are prepared as I have written about previously in due time a team will find you or vice versa. If you can afford to play without pay by all means for the experience do what you have to do, but I don’t encourage it. Your labor and love of the game is worth something. No one has to work for free so please when you see a post in a forum about a new job. DO NOT POST

WILL PLAY FOR FREE” - It is not realistic!

My unusual rant for today :-/

I thought this article was great! I recommend all high school players and international players who are thinking about attending college via sports scholarship!

Official visits (or recruiting trips) are perhaps the best way for you to find out where you will best fit in, and where you want to study. The rules regarding official visits differ upon the school’s division. For Division I, II, and III official visits, the university can pay for your transportation and 48-hour stay. You are allowed to take official visits to five (5) different Division I and II universities or schools. There is no limit to the number of official visits you may take to a Division III school.

If you are going to apply early, make sure you plan your trips as early as possible, to leave yourself enough time to make an informed decision.

You only have 48 hours to visit the campus, so make the best of every minute. Try to plan your trip so that your official visit starts on a Friday morning. This allows you to go to some classes and see what a typical weekend is like. If you plan your visit far enough in advance you should make sure you can sit in on some of the classes that interest you. Make sure to inform the coach of your preferences.

While attending classes, notice their size and atmosphere. Notice the ability of the professor. Would you feel comfortable learning in this environment?

Don’t be afraid to ask lots of questions. Ask about which classes are interesting or fun. Ask about how difficult it is to balance academics, athletics, and social life. Ask the team members about the practices and weight program. Ask them if they have improved while at this school and whether or not they have enjoyed themselves. Ask what other schools they applied to and why they ended up at that particular school. Keep your ears open- you may learn something important.

Ask the coach what the average GPA and SAT is on the team and the university as a whole, and see if you could handle the academics of the school. Try to see if the coach’s style is compatible with your personality and with your goals. Make sure you see the athletic facilities and try to meet as many people on the team as you can. See where your athletic ability would put you on the roster and in conference play. Be sure to talk to your fellow recruits.

Most importantly make sure you are happy and you can see yourself living at the college for the next four years. Ask the coach what percentage of his/her players stay on the team all four years. Look around you and see if people are enjoying themselves.

Don’t fell pressured into to being someone you’re not. Just be yourself and have fun!

I will be implementing a new profile section for everybody to ease the pain of the recent problems with the current software that has been used. I’ve been getting questions about adding new profiles but I’d rather hold off until the new system is in order. The date for release is scheduled for Monday April 25th.

I’ll inform every via newsletter and this site as well. If you have any suggestions post them here. I want to implement as many features as possible!

I just came across one of the most GET YOUR NAME OUT THERE websites in a long time. Kevin Linkous has a three page website with his:

1. Player Profile
2. Highlight Reel
3. Contact Info

View website: http://www.kevinlinkous.com/

This is very strong because he has testimonials from a current NBA player. Anyone that you know who is known you should use that and ask them to give a testimonial.

I have ask everyone on the newsletter if they wanted something like this and I have only received ONE reply. If you have a highlight vhs tape you should get it converted to dvd or avi, today. Not tomorrow.

There is a place that I recommend to get vhs tapes converted to dvd for about $100.00. Which is good because you can send dvds out cheaper than tapes as I talked about in this post

The service that provides the conversion is called CustomFlix.com and they are HIGHLY recommended. Go check them out: http://www.customflix.com

Are you in the D.C. area and want to play some good ball this summer? Check out more info:

History:

The league was born several years ago to speak to the growing voice of players wanting to compete locally during the summer months.

The league was taken over by one of its initial players, former Georgetown and current WNBA Sacramento Monarchs player Rebekkah Brunson.

WSL is the exclusive summer stage upon which both current collegiate standouts and seasoned professionals can hone the skills necessary for continued peak performance. The league was certified last year, and is currently going through the NCAA certification process for the summer 2005 period.

Participants:

Each of the area colleges from Divisions I, II and III will be invited to participate along with collegians playing throughout the NCAA with local ties. Last year schools represented included Duke, Maryland, Georgetown University, George Washington, Howard University, Coppin State, Wake Forest, Bowie and Virginia to name a few.
